The Fund will focus on modernisation of agriculture and application of technology to improve crop yields and efficiency, including opportunities in agro-processing, food production, primary production, agricultural infrastructure, agricultural inputs, aquaculture and the cultivation of niche and high-value products.

The Fund will look at companies that provide sustainable solutions that cater to the healthcare needs of the BoP such as service providers, distributors and retailers of healthcare solutions, companies that provide pooled healthcare products, companies that provide medical education and companies that uses technology to facilitate provision of healthcare services, amongst others.

The Fund believes that the BoP’s demand for education will continue to rise steadily thereby generating investment opportunities in areas such as primary, secondary and tertiary education, as well as adult and vocational education.

The Fund will evaluate companies in specialize in waste-to-energy strategies, biogas, solar energy, small-hydro companies and companies that provide clean water, irrigation, heating, lighting, cooking facilities and device-charging stations.

The Fund will invest into water distribution and management, waste-water management irrigation and pollution prevention products or services.

AIIF II will invest into companies that manufacture affordable basic consumer goods required by many low-income households, ranging from hygiene-related and personal products to furniture and low-cost vehicles.

SMEs in ASEAN and China tend to struggle to access finance and many segments of the population remain un-banked or under-banked. The Fund will invest into MFIs, financial inclusion service providers and others that may facilitate access to finance.

The Fund will invest into affordable housing opportunities, including the construction and provision and leasing of construction equipment to low-cost home builders.

The Fund will consider investments in technology-enabled distribution models and logistics strategies focused on lowering distribution costs and/or increasing efficiency of delivery to less-developed parts.

Indonesia | Healthcare | BoP Beneficiaries by the end of 2023: 2.23m

As a leading digital healthcare platform in Indonesia, Halodoc provides healthcare services, including teleconsultations, medication deliveries, medical appointment booking and healthcare plans to patients. Halodoc plays a vital role in channeling quality healthcare resources across Indonesia, including availing up to 20,000 doctors and specialists, for patients residing outside major cities in rural regions through affordable teleconsultations. On top of this, the company’s services have impact permeating to various sections of the healthcare ecosystem. Its teleconsultation and delivery capabilities combined with the ability to link with insurance providers, for instance, enable partner insurance providers to potentially introduce new products with lower premium tailored to segments like SMEs and the low-income population.

China | Healthcare| BoP Beneficiaries by the end of 2023: 11,000

The incidence of chronic kidney failure in China is growing but there is insufficient access to kidney dialysis services especially in less developed regions. EverLife is the largest provider of kidney care services in China. Established in 2016, the company provides quality hemodialysis services serving over 10,000 patients through more than 90 hospitals/dialysis centers across 11 provinces in China. To date, the overwhelming majority of EverLife’s facilities are in tier 3 and lower cities and more than 80% of the patients belong to the low-income population segment. EverLife offers dialysis and other nephrology-related healthcare services crucial to patients suffering from kidney-related diseases. An impact-driven business, EverLife was among the winners of the Social Responsibility Excellence Award in the “ESG Pioneer 60” in China in both 2021 and 2022.

Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia | Healthcare | BoP Beneficiaries by the end of 2023: 5.83m

Buymed has operated since 2018 by launching the first B2B e-commerce platform in Vietnam for pharmaceutical and care products, connecting pharmacies, clinics, hospitals and mom-and-pop drugstores with pharmaceutical suppliers to source and procure drugs and medical supplies more efficiently, with delivery to their doorstep. The platform also provides real-time pricing, important updates like product recalls, and detailed information on active ingredients. Buymed has over 700 certified suppliers and over 20,000 active customers from cities to rural areas covering all 63 provinces of Vietnam. Buymed also operates in Thailand and Cambodia.

Indonesia | Logistics, Distribution & Infrastructure | BoP Beneficiaries by the end of 2023: 90,000

Evermos is a leading social commerce platform for community resellers in Indonesia. Evermos’ reseller business model empowers Indonesians living in suburban regions and rural towns to become e-commerce entrepreneurs by selling curated locally sourced products used in daily muslim living to their own communities without capital outlay. The platform helps improve the livelihoods of resellers in two key ways: Job creation, which increases the opportunity for higher household income, and training and up-skilling by equipping them with sales and marketing skills. The company currently works with more than 1,000 local SME suppliers and over 500,000 active resellers as of the end of 2022. Through the platform, resellers can earn commissions to contribute towards their household incomes.

Indonesia, Vietnam | Education | BoP Beneficiaries by the end of 2023: 30.1m

Ruangguru is a leading edtech platform that provides quality and affordable education programs in Indonesia and Vietnam. It aims to make education accessible and convenient by offering a comprehensive suite of products and services through its digital online and offline platforms, catering to the learning needs of students and working adults. For the K12 segment, students can learn via adaptive self-learning platforms and hybrid online & offline tutoring. As at 2022, more than 70% of Ruangguru users are from outside major cities in Indonesia.1

Indonesia | Access to Finance | BoP Beneficiaries by the end of 2023: 1.67m

Micro businesses are an underserved segment lacking access to formal financial services. Through Amartha’s platform, female micro-entrepreneurs get access to productive loans to grow their small businesses and increase family incomes. Amartha integrates technology into its network and lending process, scaling its operations to reach families in more than 65,000 villages across Indonesia, empowering women to improve their financial condition and family livelihoods.
